Burry Port lifeboat rescues two teenagers from salt marsh

At 10 pm on Saturday 9 April 2011 the volunteers at the RNLI’s station at Burry Port launched to search for two missing teenagers lost in The Saltings, Pembrey.

The two had been at Cefn Sidan beach for the day and had decided to walk back to Burry Port along the beach. When they arrived at The Nose at the east end of Cefn Sidan found that their way to Burry Port cut off by the incoming tide so had turned into the salt marsh and got lost.

One used a mobile phone to call the Coastguards who requested the launch of the D class lifeboat The Young Watsons. The two, one male one female, were seen by the lifeboat crew and taken back to the boat and returned safely to Burry Port.

The two were very grateful for the assistance and were collected and taken home by one of their parents.

The lifeboat was crewed by Lee Howells, Phillip Morgan and Nick Jones.
