Burry Port’s Busy Afternoon

On Sunday 23 May 2010 at 1:30 pm the volunteers at the RNLI’s station at Burry Port launched to assist two children in danger of being cut off by the incoming tide at Llanelli Beach. The children were being watched by members of Burry Port Coastguard.

The children were able to make their own way ashore unaided. As the lifeboat was entering Burry Port marina it was tasked to a report of holiday makers cut off on the beach behind Burry Port yacht club. The lifeboat took the four teenagers on board and landed them on the beach at Burry Port.

Before leaving the area the lifeboat was asked by Burry Port Coastguards to go to The Saltings where a family of three were reported to be cut off by the incoming tide. On this occasion the family was familiar with the area and were not in need of assistance.

This busy afternoon once again illustrates the need for people going on to off-shore sandbanks to know tide times as the lifeboat has been called out seven times in the last two months to people cut off by the tide.

The life boat was crewed by:- Gary Morgan, Lee Howells, Phillip Morgan and Darren Caines.
