Burry Port’s Open Day

On Sunday 25 July 2010 from 1pm until 5pm the RNLI’s Lifeboat Station at Burry Port will be holding its annual Open Day.

During the day visitors to meet and question the crew, see the boats, observe the crew demonstrating capsizing and re-righting the D-class inshore lifeboat, an exercise which all D-class lifeboat crews practice every year as these boats are easily capsized in rough weather.

For the first time visitors will be able to see the Atlantic 75 Blue Peter II inshore lifeboat which is due to go on service at Burry Port later this month.

Lifeboat Sea Safety Officers, LSSOs, will be there to give advice on the use of life jackets, emergency flares and boat safety, boat owners can also request LSSOs to visit them on their boats for more specific advice.

Stormy Stan and the crew will give advice on Beach Safety to children and families who visit our beaches every year, showing a short video at various times throughout the afternoon.
