Business leaders turned out in force in Wrexham ahead of a campaign to promote the successes of the UK’s 5 million-strong small business community.

The Small Business Saturday tour bus spent four hours in the town’s Queen’s Square on Friday November 13.

Glyndŵr University’s Zone manager, Judith Alexander, was among the supporters of the event, along with university graduate Shaun Roberts, now chairman of the Wrexham and Chester branch of the FSB.

Politicians visiting the tour bus included Labour deputy leader Tom Watson, Wrexham MP Ian Lucas, Andrew Atkinson, chair of Wrexham town centre forum steering group, and Welsh Assembly Ministers Lesley Griffiths and Mark Isherwood.

Small Business Saturday UK is a not-for-profit campaign which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. This year’s event takes place on Saturday December 5.

Cathryn Moses, head of public affairs for Small Business Saturday UK, said: “The campaign is designed to give small businesses a PR boost and help to give them support within their communities.

“Our visit to Wrexham was part of our national tour bus campaign to promote the event. We’ve been featuring 100 small business owners in each area and here in North East Wales it was Rich Brady from Recruit Packs.”

The FSB is supporting Small Business Saturday in North Wales with an event in Mold town centre on Saturday December 5.

Mike Learmond, regional development manager for the FSB in Chester and North Wales, said: “The FSB is a major supporter of Small Business Saturday and our presence in Mold will feature live music, a free shopping bag giveaway and performances by a puppet master. Hopefully we can create a buzz and vibrancy in the town about the fantastic work of small businesses and the contribution they make to the region.”
