Flintshire’s Trading Standards have issued advice to help to make a safe choice when buying toys this Christmas.
Do:
- Buy from reputable shops and websites to reduce the risk of buying unsafe or counterfeit toys
- Look for safety signs like the ‘CE’ mark and Lion Mark
- Look for age warnings
- Keep packaging with safety information and instructions for use
- Beware of sharp edges or points
- Report any dangerous faults to Trading Standards
Don’t:
- Buy toys without a ‘CE’ mark
- Give toys with small parts to young children – they may choke on them
- Give small children tree decorations, imitation food, Christmas crackers etc.
- Let children play with broken toys
- Forget to keep older children’s toys away from toddlers and babies
- Forget to remove plastic bags before giving a toy to a child
Ron Hughes, Flintshire’s Head of Trading Standards, said: “We recommend using these tips to make sure you buy the best and safest gifts possible this Christmas.”
