Buying Christmas toys – the do’s and don’ts

FlintshireFlintshire’s Trading Standards have issued advice to help to make a safe choice when buying toys this Christmas.

Do:

  • Buy from reputable shops and websites to reduce the risk of buying unsafe or counterfeit toys
  • Look for safety signs like the ‘CE’ mark and Lion Mark
  • Look for age warnings
  • Keep packaging with safety information and instructions for use
  • Beware of sharp edges or points
  • Report any dangerous faults to Trading Standards

Don’t:

  • Buy toys without a ‘CE’ mark
  • Give toys with small parts to young children – they may choke on them
  • Give small children tree decorations, imitation food, Christmas crackers etc.
  • Let children play with broken toys
  • Forget to keep older children’s toys away from toddlers and babies
  • Forget to remove plastic bags before giving a toy to a child

Ron Hughes, Flintshire’s Head of Trading Standards, said: “We recommend using these tips to make sure you buy the best and safest gifts possible this Christmas.”
