Church Village Bypass contractor Costain joined forces with fellow construction giants Carillion to compete to help raise over £3,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
For the fifth year in succession a Costain team working on the recently completed Church Village Bypass entered the Cardiff Half Marathon fundraising event and were joined by a small team of runners currently working on the M1 motorway in Bedfordshire being jointly managed by Costain and Carillion.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning Cllr Andrew Morgan said: “Costain has been exemplary in its fundraising activities throughout the two most recent projects undertaken on behalf of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council – namely the Porth Relief Road and the Church Village Bypass.
“We are pleased by their endeavours and I’m sure the respective charities are grateful for the tremendous amount of money they raise for such worth causes.”
The team of 16 that included three runners from the M1 project all completed the 13.1 mile course and raised contributions from friends, family and sub-contractors supporting their respective projects.
This week a cheque for £3221.27 was presented to Carolyn Holt, the Wales Regional Fundraising Coordinator for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by Dean Protheroe, Commercial Manager for Costain at the new Costain project office in Cefn Coed, Parc Nantgarw.
Brian Greaves, Community Relations Manager for Costain said, “The circumstances were quite unusual as we are normally competing against Carillion, so it was really pleasing to come together with our construction colleagues for such a good cause.
“This is the fifth year we have entered a team raising over £15,000 for Cystic Fibrosis and I would like to extend my thanks to the team and the sponsors that have supported us with the fundraising”
Bruce Richards, Project Director for the M1 Junction 10-13 Improvement Scheme said, “We became aware the Church Village Bypass team were proposing to compete in the Cardiff Half Marathon and a small number of our engineers said they would like to support the event, so we put the wheels in motion. Along with the substantial amount raised for this important charity some good inter-project relationships have been developed.”
