Cabinet to Consider a New Community Hub for Grangetown

GrangetownCardiff Council’s cabinet is looking to consult on the possibility of creating a new community hub for Grangetown.

The aim of community hubs is to bring together a variety of essential public services under one roof to serve local communities.

A number of successful community hubs have already been established across  the city in Llanrumney, Trowbridge/St Mellons, Butetown and the recent Marland House Advice Hub. A further hub is also planned for Ely and Caerau.

Next week the Council’s cabinet will be looking at the option of consulting on establishing a hub in Grangetown which could include a wide range of key services such as housing and benefit advice, library services, advice for job seekers and opportunities for learning. However it would be up to the local community to decide what services it would want to see offered.

A possible location for the hub is Grangetown Library with the options of reconfiguring the existing space or extending the building.

Cabinet Member for Communities, Housing and Social Justice, Councillor Lynda Thorne, said: “It is crucial that community hubs reflect local need and if approved by cabinet next week we need to know what the views of the people of Grangetown are.

”We have enjoyed some excellent feedback and high satisfaction levels from our other hubs and if progressed a potential hub in Grangetown would provide a one stop shop of services, making it easier for people to access what they need in one location.”
