Caerphilly Gains Further Investment with Transport Grants

Today (29 March) the Labour Welsh Government has made over £11 million of additional funding available for the Transport Grant Settlement 2012-13 with £668,000 of that going to the Greater Bargoed Community Regeneration Road Scheme and £99,000 being awarded towards the Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Highway Improvements. Transport Grant (TG) is a mechanism by which the WG invest capital monies with Local Authorities to improve Wales’ transport infrastructure and at the same time help to support the local economy.

Jeff Cuthbert AM said:

‘March has been a very good month for the Caerphilly constituency with the area being awarded over a million of Welsh Government funding for grants to improve transport, libraries and community centres to name a few. I’m extremely pleased to see this further investment which compliments the new hospital and Bargoed regeneration, both of which were also Welsh Government funded initiatives.

Minister for Local Government and Communities Carl Sargent said:

‘It is important that schemes progress and are completed in order to assist with our broader strategic objectives of economic regeneration through stimulation of the local economy.  However, the commitment to fund elements of these schemes which have yet to start construction has to be made within the context of affordability and the impact on future budgets is not excessive.’
