Caerphilly Jobs Fair success

Hundreds of people looking for employment advice and career opportunities attended a successful Job Fair in Caerphilly last week.

The first Jobs Fair of the New Year took place today at Caerphilly Leisure Centre on Wednesday and attracted over 300 people.

Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC Cabinet Member for Regeneration officially opened the Jobs Fair. “This type of event where the public, private and voluntary sectors work together to support local people is essential to help sustain local economic growth and address key issues such as child and household poverty.”

The event, hosted jointly by Jobcentre Plus, Caerphilly County Borough Council and Working Links, brought together under one roof over 20 quality employers – each offering employment opportunities to local people.

Over 15 support agencies were also present to offer advice on starting up your own business, careers, benefits, childcare, health and wellbeing and education and training.

The number of people registered as unemployed and seeking work in the Caerphilly county borough totalled 5,148 in December 2010 and those deemed economically inactive amounted to 33,400 (July 2010).
