Caerphilly County Borough Council ha s launched its Yellow Pages Schools Recycling Scheme at Tynewydd Primary School in Newbridge.
Pupils across the Caerphilly county borough will be demonstrating their green credentials over the next nine weeks as they take part in a competition that aims to recycle as many old Yellow Pages directories as possible.
Caerphilly’s Yellow Pages Directories Recycling Scheme is a simple, educational and fun environmental campaign for schools, run by Caerphilly County Borough Council working with Yell, the publisher of the Yellow Pages.
Caerphilly County Borough Council will award cash prizes to schools in the county that recycle the highest number of old Yellow Pages directories per pupil.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, CCBC Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “When your new copy of the 2009/10 Yellow Pages directory is delivered, please give your old copy to a child at a participating school. It will help to reinforce what pupils are learning about the environment and will keep a useful resource out of landfill.”
Adam Billiald, environment manager at Yell, said: “The new edition of the Yellow Pages directory provides useful local information and updated contact details for businesses in Caerphilly. As a business committed to the environment, we encourage everyone to recycle as much as they can, including the old edition of the Yellow Pages directory.”
Caerphilly’s Yellow Pages School Recycling Scheme runs from Monday, 14th December 2009 until Friday, 12th February 2010. For more details contact Cath Cuss at Caerphilly Council on 01495 235272.
