Caerphilly’s Got Talent 2010 finalists announced

Following three audition days across the county borough – 16 finalists have been chosen from nearly 100 hopefuls to compete in the 2010 Live Final on Saturday 9th October.

8 singers, 4 dance acts, 3 musicians and 1 band will attempt to impress the panel of local celebrities and be crowned the 2010 winner of Caerphilly’s Got Talent.

The competition is this year sponsored by Premier Inn Corbett’s Lane Caerphilly and the winner will receive vouchers to a break/trip that includes accommodation, theatre and shopping vouchers. Thanks also to Tesco in Caerphilly and Caerphilly Castle for providing 2nd and 3rd prizes of a Digital Camera and a Heritage in Wales family pass.

The judges will include BBC Radio Wales DJ Chris Needs, Alastair Britton from 4th Street Traffic who supported the Stereophonics at the City Stadium in June, and Matthew Howells from Beyond Repair Dance who beat thousands of other dance groups from across the UK to successfully make it through to the final 18 semi-finalists and perform live on Sky One’s Got To Dance programme.

Among others taking part in the competition is band actually called ‘Among Others’. This four-piece band from Caerphilly impressed judges with their acoustic cover of Sick Little Games by All Time Low and sailed through to the final.

Do your own thing Dance Project are a 14 piece dance troupe aged 13 to 21 from Ystrad Mynach who started with a project grant from Sports Relief. They have been rehearsing in car parks, gardens and anywhere they can find whilst their dance studio is being fixed up.

Jamie Price aged 13 from Ynysddu, certainly made some noise at his audition! He impressed judges with his drumming solo, which was a medley of his five favourite songs.

15-year-old Ellie Matthews from Blackwood showed her commitment by auditioning twice! She came to New Tredegar Leisure Centre the week after auditioning at Blackwood Miners’ Institute to improve on her performance and ensure her well-deserved spot in the final.
