A new venture launched at Caldicot’s leisure centre yesterday (20th March 2014) will provide volunteers with essential skills to secure future employment.  Open every Thursday between 11am and 1.30pm the Caldicot Community Café offers basic fare – cakes, soups, hot drinks and snacks – at a reasonable price and will be staffed by ex-students or existing students of the local adult education centre.

The Community Café project has been funded by a Wellbeing Grant which has covered the cost of cookery and food hygiene courses tailored specifically to suit the volunteers involved in the scheme. The project will provide volunteers with invaluable experience in retail, the food industry and running a small enterprise from stock management to budgeting, marketing and dealing with the public.

Chris Postle of Monmouthshire Adult and Community Education said: “The self-confidence of the volunteers involved in this project has improved tremendously.  I am immensely proud of the achievements to date of the students and tutors and enjoyed watching them blossom”.

Anyone wishing to get involved in the project should contact the Adult Education Centre in Caldicot on 01291 426852 or email [email protected].
