Call to Song – Join the 2011 Eisteddfod Choir

This week, rehearsals for the 2011 Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod Choir resume after the summer break.  Members old and new are welcome to come to Wrexham’s Capel y Groes, on Sunday at 19.30.

One of the greatest social activities the Eisteddfod brings to any area is the creation of the Eisteddfod choir – with an opportunity to perform live in front of an audience  of over 3500 in the Pavilion at a prestigious concert.

Whatever your age, however long you’ve been singing, and whether you’re a soprano, alto, tenor or bass, there’s a warm welcome for you to join the Choir for the 2011 Eisteddfod.  What better way to spend long and cold winter evenings than with a friendly group hitting those high notes in preparation for the Eisteddfod in August next year?

Over the past few years, the Eisteddfod choir has been joined on stage by a wide range of famous performers, including Rebecca Evans, Gwyn Hughes Jones, and the world-famous baritone, Bryn Terfel, and the opportunity to perform with such well-known singers is a great incentive for many people to join the Eisteddfod choir every time the festival is held within a comfortable distance to their homes.

National Eisteddfod
Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, said:

“Over one hundred and fifty people have already joined the Eisteddfod choir, and we’re encouraging anyone interested in singing and living in north Wales to join us on Sunday evening.  It’s a great way to socialise and to support the Eisteddfod locally.

“We’re keen to make sure that we have an Eisteddfod to remember here in Wrexham next year – especially as the national Eisteddfod itself celebrates 150 years in its current form – , so please join us in supporting the choir, so we can raise the roof in the Pavilion in August – and show the world what great singers we are here in north east Wales!”

The Eisteddfod receives a grant from the Welsh Assembly Government through the Welsh Language Board, and also receives money from Welsh local authorities through a partnership agreement with the Welsh Local Government Association.  The 2011 National Eisteddfod will be held at Lower Berse Farm from 30 July – 6 August next year.
