Gwent Police officers will be at the Ducati Roadshow in Abergavenny next Sunday (10th April) to offer road safety guidance.
Officers from the Abergavenny Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Roads Policing Unit will be at the event from 9am to 5pm at the Abergavenny Bus Station.
The officers will be based at one of our new mobile police stations, and will be sharing their motorcycle knowledge, road safety guidance and promoting BikeSafe Cymru workshops. Roads Policing Officers will also be observing riders on organised ride-outs around the area, and offering them advice about how to drive on the local roads.
Officers will also be promoting BikeSafe Cymru workshops during the event. BikeSafe Cymru is run by police forces for motorcycling enthusiasts to improve their biking skills.
The workshops are a mix of theory and practical sessions and will include on-road assessment rides, information videos, motorcycle-related first aid, maintenance and security issues. They are designed to enhance the skills of all riders who have already passed their tests and are particularly suitable for sports bike riders and those returning to biking after a period of absence.
Inspector Lee Ford explains, “BikeSafe helps riders to become safer and more competent; thereby avoiding some of the most common causes of accidents on our roads.
“We have received positive feedback from those who join us saying that the course is enjoyable and succeeds in making them better riders.
“The police officers who run the workshops are advanced riders and are all keen motorcyclists both in work and socially. They fully understand the enjoyment people experience when out on the open road.”
Partnership Sergeant Chris O’Driscoll added, “We’d like to encourage all motorcyclists to come along and visit us on Sunday. We hope to offer advice on road safety so that motorcyclists can enjoy using the roads of Monmouthshire safely.”
