Camarthenshire ready to prosecute rubbish rogues

Camarthenshire County Council say they are committed to tackling rubbish rogues even if it means taking them to court after successfully prosecuting a Trimsaran woman for dumping rubbish over her neighbour’s garden fence when she moved home.

Donna Louise Calford pleaded guilty at Ammanford Magistrates Court on Monday to an offence contrary to Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The court was told that on Wednesday October 15, 2008, environmental enforcement officers were dealing with an unrelated problem at a house in Heol Llanelli, Trimsaran, when the owner of the house told them that black refuse sacks had been dumped on her land.

A search of the rubbish linked it to Calford, 22, now of Heol Morlais, Trimsaran, who was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £120 towards prosecution costs.

Council executive board member for the environment Councillor Haydn Jones said: “The council is committed to tackling fly tipping, which blights the landscape. We are serious about punishing people who flout the law.”
