Archery lessons got off to a flying start at Canton Community Hall during half term week where budding archers, young and old took part in classes to learn new skills. Canton Archers archery club which is based at Canton Community Hall will be providing weekly archery coaching available to all age groups or abilities on Thursdays between 4.15 – 6.00pm and sessions are available in English or Welsh language.
The first class during February half term week proved to be extremely popular with 27 children and adults ranging from 6 years of age and upwards learning new archery skills. The Community Hall provides a suitable location in a safe and enjoyable environment supervised and coached by three fully qualified staff who have successfully completed a nationally recognised Archery community sports leader course. Canton Archers Archery Club recently received funding of £1,000 from the Sportlot Community Chest grant scheme administered by the Sports Council for Wales to train the staff and provide equipment.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “I am delighted that Cardiff Council are able to offer archery classes and provide a suitable venue for Canton Archers Archery Club available to all members of the family. With the support of important funding this has demonstrated the Council’s dedication in assisting families in Cardiff to lead a healthy lifestyle.”
