Cardiff Castle Launches Film Location Tours

Cardiff-Castle-Sitting-RoomFrom August 8, Cardiff Castle will be adding a new tour to its portfolio of guided tours for visitors and launching a Film Location Tour.

The Castle has been used on many occasions by television and film companies as a location. Most recently the BBC TV hit shows of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures have all used the unique spaces within the Castle.

Now visitors will be able to see exactly where some of their favourite shows have been filmed and the tour will take in The Black Tower, The Undercroft, Library, Keep, Wartime Shelters and some areas of the Castle not open to the public. The tours will be led by Castle guides who are not only experts on the history of the site but are also incredibly knowledgeable about the fine detail of the terrestrial and intergalactic scenes shot here.

Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury, said: “The appeal of TV shows such as Doctor Who and Sherlock is worldwide, and we know that many of the Castle’s international visitors as well as more local visitors are fascinated by the way the programmes are made.”

The Castle already offers guided tours of the Castle Apartments, the Clock Tower and the Wartime Shelters led by an ARP warden.

The Film Location Tour lasts approximately 40 minutes and costs £4 per person (concessions apply) plus a Castle admission ticket or a valid Castle Key card.
