Cardiff Central Youth Club Opens with New Management

Cardiff Central Youth Club is to be handed over to a new management group by the Council from Thursday, December 1.

The gymnastics club will now be operated by Cardiff Central Youth Club Sports and Recreation Ltd.

The new management group is made up of parents and committee members from the existing gymnastics club and has achieved charitable status to continue the management and the running of the facility.

Some members of staff will be transferring to the management group while others have chosen to remain under the employment of Cardiff Council and will now join the team at Eastern Leisure Centre.

They will assist with the development of the centre’s gymnastics programme delivered through funding from the Local Authority Partnership Agreement (LAPA), a scheme which aims to promote a better life through active living.

Cardiff Central Youth Club Sports and Recreation Ltd were one of several parties who expressed an interest in taking over the lease.

Following consideration to all applications the Council accepted them as the successful group who has the resources to run the centre.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “I wish the new management team all the best for the future and I hope they go on to achieve many successes in their new venture.

“We have also been successful in securing funding to provide an enhanced gymnastics activity provision at Eastern Leisure Centre.

“This will allow us to continue to promote sport in the city, from nurturing youngsters at grass roots level right through to providing world class sporting facilities for elite athletes and major sporting events.”
