Cardiff Council donates seized noise equipment to Red Cross

Cardiff Council has donated equipment seized under The Environmental Protection Act 1990 to the British Red Cross electrical store.

Pollution Control Officers seize televisions, stereos, speakers and DVD players during the course of noise complaint investigations and these were offered to the charity.

The Council’s Noise Pollution team deal with more than 3,000 complaints every year with over 50% of noise complaints relating to amplified music.

Councillor Ed Bridges, Chair of Cardiff Councils Public Protection Committee said: “Repetitive noise can seriously affect quality of life. Cardiff’s Noise Officers are able to offer practical advice on simple measures that can be taken to avoid neighbour noise problems. However, when circumstances warrant it, officers have powers to seize noise making equipment including stereos and televisions.”

Mr James Hart from the Red Cross said: “We are very grateful to receive the equipment from Cardiff Council and we will be selling the equipment in our store.”
