Cardiff County & Vale of Glamorgan Music Service Spring Concerts

On Monday 10 March, the Wind Bands Festival, the Music Service’s three Wind Bands, Transitional, High Schools’ and Youth, will come together to perform in City Hall at 7pm The Youth Wind Band recently gained a platinum award at the National Concert Band Festival in Cheltenham. Tickets are available on the door.

The Junior Schools’ Music Festival takes place at St David’s Hall on Monday 24 March at 7pm. Over 400 pupils from Cardiff County and the Vale of Glamorgan schools will take part in the junior schools’ orchestra and choir, foundation brass band, junior harp ensemble, guitar ensemble and beginners’ percussion. Pieces will include pop and folk music as well as more classical items and will include favourites such as choral highlights from The Lion King, music from Skyfall as well as some classic Welsh folksongs.

The concert will also feature children from St Cadoc’s Catholic Primary School in Llanrumney, who will perform music they have been learning through the Music Development arm of the Service.

Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Julia Magill said: “The standard and quality of the performances from these young people is quite incredible for their ages and is a credit to the pupils and their teachers.

“The music students and their tutors have been hard at work rehearsing for months and I’m sure their performances will be thoroughly enjoyed by all who go along to watch the concerts.”
On 25 March, The Lord Mayor’s Charity Spring Showcase which will feature over 400 pupils in eight different county ensembles will be held in St David’s Hall at 7pm. This year’s massed choir consists of over 150 pupils from five primary schools which feed into Cathays and Willows High Schools. They will perform pieces including ‘Shine’, The William Tell Overture, ‘Suo Gan’ and ‘You Raise Me Up.’ A collection will be held in aid of the Lord Mayor’s nominated charity, Cardiff Foodbank at the end of the concert.

The High Schools’ Orchestra, Jazz News and Junior Jazz concert is at 7.30pm at City Hall on Monday 31 March. Featuring big band, jazz, classical, modern and film music it promises to offer something for everyone. Tickets are available on the door.
