Catrin Finch and Cimarron

Celebrating the beauty and versatility of the harp music of Colombia and Cymru, this extraordinarily vibrant and popular project returns to Wales following the ecstatic response to two sell-out shows in 2009 and Cimarron’s triumphant set at WOMAD festival.

“Their female dancer, in a gorgeous dress from some
19th century ballroom, swirls in a deadly-looking courting ritual
round a stamping male, and a sensual past breathes again.”

– The Independent on Cimarron at WOMAD 2009

From the cattle-rearing plains of rural Colombia on the Orinoco delta, Cimarron make wild, untamed joropo music that preserves the spirit of freedom found in one of the world’s most untouched regions. Rooted in a deep peasant tradition defined by the mestizo mixed heritage of African, Spanish and indigenous cultures and led by harpist and composer Carlos Rojas, harp, bandola, cuatro, maracas, bass and cajon hammer out rippling melodies and mesmerizing rhythms with jaw-dropping speed and passion. Highlights include a dazzling array of solos, whirling dance and haunting love songs.

“If I’d not been jammed in the middle of the back
row I’d have fallen off my seat with excitement!”
– fRoots on Catrin Finch and Cimarron in Cardigan 2009
