Four members of the Cardiff Celts Wheelchair basketball team have been selected to represent Wales at the Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games.
Daniel Clelland, Phil Cochrane, Harri Jenkins, and Robert Carpenter will form part of the team of ten athletes who will compete for Wales against teams from England Regions and Northern Ireland.
The event which runs from Sunday 6 until Wednesday 9, May will be held at the Olympic and Paralympic Games venues.
As well as getting the opportunity to compete at the Excel Centre, the teams will also be treated to a tour of the Olympic Stadium.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “A huge congratulations to Daniel, Phil, Harri and Robert for being selected to represent Wales in this important event.
“During an exciting lead up to the Paralympic Games, this achievement demonstrates the enthusiasm and talent for disability sports in Cardiff nurtured through grassroots sports provision.
“It also raises the profile of possible future Paralympians and I wish the team the best of luck at the competition.”
The Cardiff Celts Wheelchair Basketball Club was established in partnership between Sport.Cardiff and Disability Sport Wales almost ten years ago.
All four of the players selected joined the Cardiff Celts as a result of the Wheelchair Sports Spectacular, an annual two-day event which attracts over 550 participants.
Run by Sport.Cardiff and Disability Sport Wales it offers children, young people and adults the opportunity to take part in over 20 different disability sports.
