New e-books library service launched

Readers will be able to read e-books online free of charge thanks to a new service from Denbighshire Library Service which is launched on March 1st, World Book Day.

The new Public Library Online service offers digital editions of books on ‘virtual bookshelves’. They include books for children and adults, from crime fiction and paranormal romance to books on the environment and Shakespeare’s plays.

To access the service, library members just need to go to www.denbighshire.gov.uk/libraries,  click on e-books and enter their library membership number. The books can be read on any computer, tablet, or laptop with internet access, at home, at a library or on the move.

Bethan Hughes of Denbighshire Library Service said: “For the first time, we are able to offer library members access to online e-books. We hope that readers will enjoy being able to read these e-books online. We are also preparing to launch a downloadable e-book lending service in the spring.”

Councillor Pauline Dobb, Lead Member said: “I am delighted that our library service is able to offer the latest format of books to the people of Denbighshire and I hope that readers of all ages will enjoy them.”

Pubic Library Online is a subscription service for libraries, allowing them to give their users online access to books. It offers themed digital bookshelves of children’s, teen, adult fiction and non-fiction bestsellers from a range of publishers including Allen & Unwin, Alma Books, Bloomsbury, Canongate, Faber, Macmillan Education, Mercier Press, Oneworld Classics, Quercus and Verve. The service is built on the goal shared by publishers and libraries to support reading and literacy through public libraries.
