To support this year’s Fair Trade Fortnight – which runs from 27 February to 11 March – Cardiff’s Chapter Art Centre has teamed up with Fair Trade Cardiff and Zaytoun, a Palestine-based charity, to host a special food-tasting event where attendees will have the opportunity to sample a range of Palestinian produce for free.
With something to tickle everyone’s taste-buds, the event is being held on March 7 at Chapter Arts Centre and is open to the public from 6:30pm until 8:30pm.
And it’s not just the produce that will whet the appetite but there’s plenty of food for thought too. Event goers will also have the opportunity to speak with two guest olive farmers to find out more about what they are eating, where it has come from and how Fair Trade and Zaytoun are helping to support the rights and livelihoods of independent farmers in Palestine.
Palestinian olive farmers Taysir Arbasi and Riziq Abu Nasser will be mingling with attendees throughout the evening, sharing stories and information about their own experiences and challenges.
Councillor Judith Woodman, Executive Member for Communities Housing and Social Justice at Cardiff Council, said: “Supporting Fair Trade and making fair trade goods more widely available across Cardiff has long been a priority for the Council, which is one of the reasons we helped to establish Cardiff as the World’s first Fair Trade Capital City back in 2004.
“Since then, we have continued to champion the fair-trade cause and support its annual fortnight awareness drive. This year’s event at the Chapter is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved, try something new and find out how your support can make a real difference to people’s lives”
