Cheer on the Bluebirds in the City Centre

Cardiff City head to Wembley this weekend to be the first ever Welsh football team to play in the Carling Cup final.

32,000 Bluebird fans will be travelling to Wembley but those not lucky enough to get a ticket can still enjoy all the atmosphere of the big game by joining supporters to watch the Bluebirds take on Liverpool on a giant screen in Windsor Place.

With Carling Cup excitement and anticipation spreading across the city, Cardiff Council is keen to ensure that fans who want to watch the historic clash against Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday 26 can do so in a safe environment.

Cardiff Council has joined forces with BBC Wales to put up a big screen in Windsor Place,  from 2pm on Sunday Bluebird fans can enjoy all the build up of this sellout cup final in the heart of the city centre on the offical Cardiff City Supporters Screen.

Fans will be able to savour the occasion at Windsor Place with free admission to the event on a first come first served basis from  2.pm  until 6.30pm

For licensing reasons no-one will be allowed to take alcohol onto the site but local bars at Windsor Place will be serving alcohol.

Executive Memember for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “On Sunday Cardiff City make history, not just for themselves but for the whole of Wales. It’s a huge achievement to be the first Welsh club in The Carling Cup. I know Bluebirds fans heading to Wembley will have a fantastic time, but we also wanted to make sure this historic event is marked in the heart of Cardiff by providing a big screen for fans to cheer on the Bluebirds in their home city.

“I am sure the atmosphere will be electric with everyone getting behind The Bluebirds to bring the Carling Cup home to Wales and I want to wish Cardiff City good luck and hope Bluebird fans whether at Wembley or Cardiff have a fantastic time cheering on the team.”

A Cardiff City spokesman said: “Cardiff City’s appearance in the Carling Cup final is another historic day for the football club and with so many wanting to be there to support the team, demand for tickets has far outstripped supply. As with our previous appearances at Wembley, the giant screen is a great way for non-travelling Bluebirds fans to enjoy the game together. There’ll be a great atmosphere at the location in Windsor Place and it promises to be a momentous occasion for both the club and Wales’ capital city.”
