Chief Executive delighted at Regional Returning Officer role

The Chief Executive and Returning Officer of Denbighshire County Council, Dr Mohammed Mehmet says being appointed the Regional Returning Officer for the North Wales Electoral Region in the 2011 National Assembly Elections is a “tremendous honour”.

The appointment of Dr Mehmet has been announced by the Assembly’s Social Justice and Local Government Minister, Carl Sargeant AM. Dr Mehmet is one of five  Constituency Returning Officers appointed for each of the Welsh regions.

His role will involve processing nominations for the regional election, allocating regional member seats and declaring the regional result of the vote.

Dr Mehmet said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been appointed to this role by the Minister.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues in all constituencies to make sure that the elections are run smoothly and correctly in our region, by making sure that ballot papers, election notices and procedures are consistent throughout North Wales. This is vital in the interest of democracy.”
