Children capture forest wildlife on banner

Children from Ysgol Gynradd Dolgellau’s Ty Arran special needs unit have captured the sights and sounds of Coed-y-Brenin Forest Park on a colourful banner.

The rich variety of wildlife at the Forestry Commission Wales venue – from the birds in the trees to the fish in the Afon Eden – has all been recorded on the banner created with the help of artist Anna Evans.

The children are regular visitors to the forest park, where members of the Commission’s Woodlands for Learning team transform the surrounding woodlands into a stimulating outdoor classroom.

They handed over the vivid blue and green banner, which they made to celebrate the opening of the park’s all-ability trails, to FC Wales education officer Nicola Maysmor before setting off on a sensory woodland walk.

Artist Anna Evans said, “It was great working with the children. I recorded them talking about what they saw and heard in Coed-y-Brenin and then we were busy for two days listening to the recordings, painting and collaging.”
