C’LAEN by Iola Ynyr

Cwmni’r Frân Wen, the company that provides challenging theatre of the highest standard to children and young people of North West Wales, is currently touring its latest production to primary schools across Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy.

Manon is a very lonely person who makes everybody’s life a misery. She succeeds in persuading Iwan and Dewi to meet her at a building site with the intention of choosing one as her friend. Due to the appeal of her defiant behaviour, the two decide to meet her. The three characters long to establish a strong bond but how far will they venture to achieve this goal?

Following requests from numerous schools in the area, Cwmni’r Frân Wen’s latest production deals with bullying issues and is targeting 9-11 year olds. This performance will challenge the audience both visually and through its dialogue.

“Cwmni’r Frân Wen is intent on dealing with the complexities of bullying head on due to the fact that most victims of bullying develop in to bullies themselves.”
Iola Ynyr, Artistic Director, Cwmni’r Frân Wen

The opportunity is given in the workshop following the performance to challenge Manon’s behaviour in a safe and objective manner. The workshop will demonstrate how the performance affects both the victims and the bullies as Manon’s character faces criticism and support. The aim of the production is to give members of the audience the courage to deal with their own complex problems constructively.

This is yet another production of a high standard from Cwmni’r Frân Wen. The performance as a whole was a huge success and offered experiences which cannot be provided in a classroom environment.
Mair Jones Parry, Ysgol Tremadog

A good story like this one engages the children immediately. Excellent production, as usual.
P Roberts, Ysgol Maenofferen

The children had a thoroughly memorable theatrical experience.
