Closing Date Approaches for Vale of Glamorgan Eisteddfod

Sunday 1 April is the closing date for the composition competitions for the Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod, and organisers are calling on potential competitors not to leave it until the last minute to send in their work.

Eisteddfod Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, said, “This year’s competitions have been warmly welcomed, with many people across Wales talking about competing.  With only a few weeks to go before the closing date, this is the time for a final read of your work, to print it and send it to the office to ensure that it reaches us before the closing date.

“Each year we hear people saying that they’d meant to compete in the Eisteddfod, but hadn’t finished the work or hadn’t been able to send everything through by the closing date, so with a little over two weeks to go, this is a chance to remind all our competitors that we need you to send us your work.  Go back to your work, and make the time over the next few days to finish everything and send it to the office.  Who knows, this year’s winning entry for the Chair could be on your desk!  So make the time to complete your work.”

31 March is the closing date for the Welsh Learner of the Year competition, and this year, the Eisteddfod has been encouraging Welsh speakers to nominate learners for the competition, as part of the Give Welsh a Cwtch campaign.  The Welsh Learner of the Year competition is one of the Eisteddfod’s most important and popular competitions, and the aim is to ensure that Welsh learners who play a full and integral role in their community and society are celebrated for their commitment to the language and to Wales.

Welsh Learner of the Year entry forms and competitions forms for all the composition competitions are available in the List of Competitions, available to download from the 2012 Eisteddfod website, or can be bought online or in shops across Wales.

The Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod is held on the old airfield at Llandow from 4-11 August.  For more information go to www.eisteddfod.org.uk.
