Coleg Gwent scoops top training award

Coleg Gwent has been recognised for helping its staff to stay ahead of the game by developing individual skills and expertise.  The College has become the first FE College in the UK to achieve the continuing professional development (CPD) Mark Award.

Coleg Gwent topped over 1,000 education establishments registered with the organisation to gain a 100% score, fully meeting the criteria in the portfolio of evidence submitted for the award, which recognises commitment to staff development and training.

The college began working towards the Mark in August 2010.  Staff and students across the organisation took part in interviews and discussions with a CPD Mark Assessor, and worked on a comprehensive portfolio of evidence detailing the College’s approach to staff development.

“The CPD Mark has confirmed our reputation for excellent training amongst staff, potential staff and the college’s standing in the Welsh FE community,” said Coleg Gwent’s Learning and Development Manager Sue Snowball.  “I believe that Teaching and Learning was good before the assessment and continues to improve because of the hard work put into maintaining high standards in CPD”.

“The award has raised awareness of CPD and the processes involved across the college.   Staff had a good understanding of CPD prior to the assessment but it was highly useful to see a range of staff and students come together to focus on their experience and roles.”

Director of the CPD Mark, Graham Rollinson, said: “We were very happy to work with Coleg Gwent staff, who showed a totally professional approach to the CPD Mark process and we are delighted that they have successfully achieved the award.  We look forward to working with them again on other projects in future.”
