Coleg Gwent shine on global stage

Coleg Gwent showcased their skills expertise to a global audience recently when the UK played host to the world’s greatest skills competition, WorldSkills London 2011.

Chosen from hundreds of applications, students demonstrated their talents at WorldSkills London 2011.  With 150,000 global visitors, including some of the world’s most highly respected skills experts, Coleg Gwent helped show the rest of the world that Wales, as well as the whole of the UK and the official Team UK, excels at skills.

Colleges and training providers from across the UK applied in their hundreds for international Showcase status at the event, devising highly visual, entertainment displays which will allow their staff and students to shine in front of a huge national and international audience.

Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys Campus musical theatre students drew large crowds with their dazzling 20-minute showcase of hit musical numbers from shows including We Will Rock You, Moulin Rouge, Boogie Nights, Shrek and Sweet Charity.

The WorldSkills London 2011 Competition was one of the biggest events ever to be held at ExCeL London, and saw over 1,000 of the most skilled young people from all corners of the globe battling it out in 46 different skills, competing to be crowned the best of the best in their chosen skill. Showcase colleges and training providers helped to inspire the audience and help them to look at the endless possibilities for their future jobs and careers.

Aidan Jones, Executive Director of WorldSkills London 2011, said:
