College provides perfect TV backdrop

The scenic grounds of a college in North Wales provided a “breath-taking backdrop” as Europe’s biggest trailer maker took centre stage in a popular television programme.

Ifor Williams Trailers has a starring role in the latest series of the popular farming and countryside series, Ffermio, on S4C.

Three of the award-winning company’s top-selling trailers will be up for grabs in a special Ffermio competition.

First prize is a TA510  12’ cattle trailer with a cross division and front flap worth  £4,956, the second prize is a HB506 horse trailer £4,656 and the third prize is a P6E trailer worth £804.

The filming took place amid the scenic splendour of the Vale of Clwyd at Coleg Llysfasi which is part of the Deeside College Group of Colleges.

Iorwerth Roberts, the head of sales for Ifor Williams Trailers in North Wales, said they valued the partnership with Ffermio.

He said: “We were delighted to be given the opportunity to be involved with Ffermio again this year.

“We have had fantastic support from our loyal customers over many years and in return we feel it is vitally important to support the rural community – Ffermio have provided us with a great way of giving something back.”

According to Telesgop, the production company who make the programme, they are expecting entries from across the UK.

Ffermio presenter Meinir Jones said: “The trailers are fantastic prizes for the programme and we are very grateful to Ifor Williams Trailers.

“There is always a huge amount of interest in the competition – thousands compete every year, via the internet or with postal entries.

“The grounds of the college have provided us with a perfect setting for the filming – it’s a breathtakingly beautiful area.

“We know that the viewers also appreciate the competition because we have thousands of entries and the numbers increase year on year.  The popularity of the competition speaks volumes about the popularity of the trailers.”

“As S4C programmes can be seen outside Wales on Sky and Freesat as well as over the Internet after they’ve been broadcast, we have a number of people from all over the UK watching.”

Dewi Jones, the Farm Manager, at the Llysfasi site, said: “Ifor Williams Trailers is a company that is local to us and we’re very happy to have them here today.

“I am sure the competition will be extremely popular – the trailers are really good prizes.”

Deeside College Group Principal David Jones said: “We are delighted to continue our association with Ifor Williams Trailers and Ffermio and to welcome them to our Coleg Llysfasi estate for this filming.

“We are here for all farmers and the land-based industries of North Wales and we are proud of our links with such a leading and enterprising company like Ifor Williams Trailers.”
