During the past week the newly formed Commercial Vehicle Unit has had a number of successes.
An LGV travelling west on the A55 at Anglesey lost control and collided with the central wire reservation fence, demolishing a length of approximately 150 metres. The vehicle was prevented from entering the eastbound carriageway by the fence and no other vehicles were involved.
The driver carried on with his journey and was traced to the ferry terminal at Holyhead.
It was established that the British registered vehicle, driven by a Pole who had a permanent Northern Ireland address, was extensively damaged.
He was arrested for dangerous driving / failing to stop / failing to report and tachograph offences. He was bailed pending CPS advice.
In two other incidents, one on the A5 at Ogwen and the second at Mold, Romanian LGV drivers were arrested for fraud – falsifying their records of driving hours.
To date a total of £3,450 has been paid at the roadside in fines, and two vehicles have been immobilised as the drivers could not pay the fines immediately.
Sgt Ifan Jones, who runs the Llandegai based unit, said: “It must be noted that the work on the arrests, waiting for interpreters, and chart analysis takes a great deal of time. I am extremely pleased with these results.
