Community Day Brings Magic to Pentwyn

Pentwyn Leisure Centre will host the annual Pentwyn Community Day this Saturday, June 4 between 12pm and 4pm.

The event will be opened by the Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Jayne Cowan. It has been called ‘Pentworts Graduation’ and has a spell bound theme full of wizardry and magic.

There will be a host of activities, stalls and attractions for all the family, with proceeds raised from the day going towards paying for a special home facility for a pupil of The Hollies Special School.

Children, young people and adults are invited to come and enjoy the many activities which will include fairground rides and free swimming for children, provided by the Welsh Government free swim initiative. There are also fair games such as a coconut shy, ‘splat the rat’ and giant cactus hoopla.

Visitors will be able to try their hand at soaking their local PC, police fingerprinting or meeting real police horses.

Other participants on the day will include the Fire Service & Arson Reduction Team, the Ezeeplay Play Bus, CCFC Community Foundation, Cardiff Wargames, Party World Balloons and Army Cadets who are offering a carwash service!

A special sports memorabilia auction will be taking place including boxing gloves signed by Nathan Cleverly, a Cardiff Blues rugby ball and shirt and rugby boots worn by Sam Warburton.

Since March there have been two other successful fundraising events raising £2,000 of the £5,000 target.

Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Jayne Cowan Said: “I am really looking forward to attending the Pentwyn Community Day.  A lot of work has gone into this event, and I hoping to meet and chat to many local residents on Saturday.

“The South Wales Police Team work hard in communities across the City, and I hope many people will come and support this initiative.”

The Pentwyn Community Day is a partnership project between Pentwyn Leisure Centre, local Neighbourhood Police and local residents, businesses and community groups. It was originally targeted at combating anti social behaviour.

The event is in its fourth year and due to its success it has now been rolled out across other communities in Cardiff, with Llanishen Leisure Centre hosting their event on July 2.
