A Cardiff Neighbourhood Policing Team is working with local residents to help them feel safer in the community.
Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Nia Thomas has successfully worked with the Grangetown community to set up a new Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
PCSO Thomas said: “Community spirit is strong in this part of Cardiff and I am delighted to be working so closely with residents to further reduce crime and anti social behaviour.”
The group, which launches this week, will represent the Windsor Quay area where residents will be urged to look out for each others’ property and share information about crime
Neighbourhood Watch is the largest voluntary crime prevention group in the country with over 10 million members.
Residents in Windsor Quay decided to set up the group after getting involved with the local Neighbourhood Policing Team through Cuppa with a Copper’ sessions and Pact meetings.
PCSO Thomas said: “Attendance at these meetings has increased since Christmas resulting in a reduction in crime.
“Residents decided to build on this success and positive feeling by setting up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme to keep crime down.
“By working together we can reduce crime and the fear of crime and improve the quality of life for people living in the community.”
Neighbourhood Watch groups help reduce and detect crime by:
- Sharing information about local crime;
- Reporting suspicious incidents;
- Taking crime prevention measures to protect their homes and possessions;
- Tackling local issues;
- Looking after their neighbour’s homes, especially when they are away.
The Neighbourhood Watch Launch evening for Windsor Quay, Grangetown will be held on Wednesday, May 18 at 6pm in the Conference Room, Prospect Place, Ferry Road.
Residents are welcome to go along. For more information Pcso Nia Thomas can be contacted on 07805 301193 or by e-mail at [email protected]
