Are you entitled to a delicious Community Meal? If so, then why not join the 1,500 other clients throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf who already have their meals delivered to their door.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Catering Services, help people maintain a healthy, independent lifestyle through its home delivery meal service – Community Meals – . The Council provides a two course meal in the middle of the day, seven days a week, except bank holidays.
The meals provided are healthy and of a superb quality, with a typical menu of delicious homemade food, such as roast turkey with vegetables, roast and boiled potatoes and gravy or salmon fillets and salad followed by warming desserts like jam sponge and custard. All this is for just £2.50 per day.
The Home delivery meal service is available to people over the age of 60 who would otherwise find it difficult to make themselves a cooked lunch. However, meals can be delivered to people under the age of 60 who have been assessed as needing this service because of disability or illness and meals can be provided on a short or long-term basis according to need, such as those people on respite care.
Cabinet Member for Education, Skills & Lifelong Learning, Cllr Eudine Hanagan, said: “The meals we provide are healthy and nutritious, with a superb range of different foods on offer for just £2.50 per day, which is remarkable.
“Over the coming months, the Council’s Catering Services have a whole range of different themed menus ranging from foods celebrating St David’s Day, Easter, Wimbledon parties even barbeque party food and a taste of French cuisine. The quality is always first class and we would encourage even more people to take advantage of this service.
“The service continued throughout the severe winter weather and this is testimony to the dedication and commitment of our staff. We are extremely grateful to them for ensuring that our residents who use the service were still able to have their daily meal.”
Most people using this service order seven meals every week but users can vary the days each week in which they want their meals delivered.
The Council’s Community Meals service also provides meals in its popular Day Centres across the County Borough. Those over the age of 50 can use these facilities and enjoy the benefits of a hot two course meal for £2.50.
The Council’s Older People’s Champion, Cllr Mike Forey, explained: “We are very proud of this vital service which is well-used throughout the entire county borough, both by people at home and those who use one of our network of day centres.
“It provides many people the opportunity to not only enjoy a delicious cooked meal, but also to have one-to-one contact with our friendly uniformed staff who deliver their food.
“I know that a lot of older residents in particular rely on the Community Meals service, which we are delighted to continue offering seven days a week.”
