Community woodland receives an Easter clean

Denbighshire County Council Countryside Services recently teamed up with a number of community groups to give a community woodland a good clean –up in time for Easter.

The Council worked with Keep Wales Tidy, Sussex Street Christian Centre, Oasis Christian Centre, Kimmel Bay Church, and volunteers for a clear up event at Glan Morfa Community Woodland.

24 people turned up to help on a wet and windy day and managed to clear over 45 bags of rubbish from the site and as a reward for their effort members from the youth groups were offered a free session on the Marsh Tracks national standard BMX facility.

Denbighshire County Council Countryside Warden Jim Kilpatrick said: “In recent years a lot of effort by the community has gone into this site. Over 15,000 trees have been planted and the rewards of this effort are clear to see.

“However the transition of stopping litter and dog fouling problems has been slower. We all hope that the effort on the day can be a statement by the community to show how they want the site to look.”

Gareth Jones from Keep Wales Tidy said: “Taking part takes real dedication from volunteers, and it’s great to see members of the community especially young people getting stuck in.  I think that all those who took part felt a sense of wellbeing for a job well done, not to mention battling against the elements.  I just hope that people think about the hard work that these young people have put into the site next time, before they litter, fly-tip or allow their dogs to mess all over the footpaths!”

One of the highlights from the day was the reward for the participants of the use of the BMX track and thanks has to go out to the Marsh tracks team for their help. For information about Marsh Tracks please contact them on 01745 353335.
