Concerns raised over hospital refurbishment

Darren Millar, Assembly Member for Clwyd West, has raised concerns about the impact that Ysbyty Glan Clwyd’s refurbishment programme could have on patient care.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board last week approved a refurbishment programme for Glan Clwyd Hospital last week and have announced that work will begin as early as March 2011.

When asked to comment Darren said:

‘Whilst I welcome the investment coming to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, I’m very worried about the potential impact of the refurbishment programme on patient care.

‘Whilst the refurb is carried out patients could have to travel further for treatment, potentially increasing costs to patients and making it more difficult for people to receive visitors, but worse still, I am concerned that reduced theatre capacity could lead to operations being cancelled or delayed.

‘I have sought assurances on these matters from the Health Board.’
