Conference to discuss key issues for rural economy

Bovine TB Eradication and Common Agricultural Policy reform in Wales are among the topics covered in a rural economy conference later this month.

The event organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) takes place at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells on Wednesday, February 24th.

Among the speakers are senior officials from the Welsh Assembly Government, Glyn Davies of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Jeremy Moody of the CAAV.

Bovine TB eradication, CAP reform in Wales, The Single Payment Scheme (SPS), the Glastir scheme and the Revision of Tan 6 (Prospects for Planning and the Rural Economy are among the issues under discussion.

  • Glastir Scheme with Kay Davies, Welsh Assembly Government
  • Single Payment Scheme with Rita Jones, Welsh Assembly Government and Alice Russell-Hare CAAV
  • Prospects for Planning and the Rural Economy: Revision of TAN 6 with Rory Hutchings, John Collins and Partners LLP

David Lermon, Director for Wales of the ICAEW, said: “This fourth annual conference provide a tremendous opportunity for all those involved in the rural economy to discuss the key issues of the day.

“The theme of the conference the Evolving Landscape will deal with many of the major affecting the rural economy.

“Chartered accountants and other advisers do play a key role in helping farmers and rural landowners make best use of the finances in these difficult economic times.”

The event , sponsored by HSBC, is the fourth agricultural conference organised by the ICAEW and the CAAV.
