Contaminated Vodka Warning

Cardiff Trading Standards is issuing an urgent warning to residents about sales of illegal and unsafe vodka.

Bottles of vodka currently on sale in Cardiff, packaged as Drop Vodka are under investigation by Trading Standards. Initial tests suggest the vodka contains an ingredient which is normally used as a cleaning fluid and is harmful if consumed.

Trading Standards are still investigating the vodka’s origin, and whether it is in fact counterfeit ‘bootleg’ vodka. Irrespective of this, although the label describes it as ‘vodka’, preliminary tests of the contents have indicated that it does not contain enough alcohol to legitimately be called vodka.

People are strongly advised not to purchase or consume the vodka.

Councillor Judith Woodman, Cardiff Council Deputy Leader said: “Cardiff consumers need to be very cautious as there is a possibility that the vodka is dangerous and could put people’s health at risk. Any concerns should be reported to Trading Standards as soon as possible.”

If you are concerned that you may have bought any of the vodka under investigation, you should contact Trading Standards on 029 20 87 2059.
