Corporate Parenting for Denbighshire’s Looked After Children

A new strategy has been launched by Denbighshire County Council to make sure that children and young people who are or have been in public care have every opportunity to reach their full potential.

The central principle of corporate parenting is that all councillors and staff employed by the council strive to achieve and provide for looked after children and young people, so that they have a safe, secure home, are encouraged to make the most of their educational and social opportunities, and are given the best possible start to adult life.

The Corporate Parenting Strategy 2009-11 outlines Denbighshire’s commitment to corporate parenting, and how the council aims to achieve the goals set out to improve the lives of these children and young people.

Councillor Morfudd Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Children’s Services, said: “I am pleased to welcome this Corporate Parenting Strategy to help develop and support the future of our children and young people in care and care leavers.

“These young people face a number of challenges as they make their move to independence; this strategy outlines our aspirations for them and clearly sets out the actions we intend to take to achieve them.”
