Corridors of colour

Residents in four blocks of flats in Bangor will become interior designers for the day over the next few weeks as they choose the colour scheme for the walls in the communal areas of their buildings.

Tenants and residents at Plas Glyndŵr, Plas Gwenllian, Plas Marchnogion and Plas y Llyn will be asked to vote for their favourite colour scheme to complete the improvement work carried out on the building by housing association Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG).

New kitchens and bathrooms and rewiring work has already been carried out in the flats as part of CCG’s Welsh Housing Quality Standard, with each tenant choosing which kitchen, tiling work and flooring they wanted installed, improving the communal areas means that tenants come together to choose how they would like to see their building improved.

The work will be carried out by contractors G Purchase on behalf of CCG over the next few weeks with all four blocks in the Maesgeirchen area of Bangor being improved.

Glyn Jones, project manager for the work from CCG said; “With improvements already been carried out in all the flats as part of CCG’s improvement programme, we wanted to extend the work into communal areas by making them a more welcoming space. We wanted to give tenants the chance to tell us what colours they’d like to see in the hallways and stairwells and following consultation with them, we will be decorating the walls in the colour of the tenants’ majority choice.”

Painting work on the walls will be done before new flooring is laid out throughout the building. Tenants and residents in over 70 flats in the four building blocks will see the benefits of the new easier to maintain flooring and newly painted walls.

Improving communal areas in the four blocks is the latest in a series of improvements that CCG have invested in on the estate over the past few months in order to improve tenants’ homes and the areas surrounding the properties. They include improving nearly 500 homes on the estate, installing new security doors at Tan y Bryn as well as running a number of projects and events to reduce antisocial behaviour in the area.
