The Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council has paid tribute to the work of three firefighters from Pembrokeshire who travelled to Haiti to be part of the rescue operation in the wake of that country’s devastating earthquake.
Pembroke Dock station watch manager Gerwyn Howells; Haverfordwest crew manager Phil Irving and firefighter Paul Dyson from Pembroke Dock were the guests of Councillor Anne Hughes at a reception in the Chairman’s Suite at County Hall in Haverfordwest on Thursday evening.
The trio were part of a seven-strong team flown out to the Caribbean island by the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
They went to work as soon as they got there and were immediately involved in the rescue of a two-year-old girl from the rubble.
During the evening the firefighters gave a visual demonstration of their role and the conditions they worked in.
