Council backs local businesses

Providing the best resources for the Gwynedd business community to thrive is a priority for Gwynedd Council and a recent survey has shown increasing levels of customer satisfaction.

Gwynedd Council’s Economy and Community Department surveyed all businesses which hold Council-owned industrial units. The results show overall satisfaction is growing, occupancy levels remain high and that the Council responds well to tenant requests.

Gwynedd Council has 90 industrial units and 52 units within enterprise centres. Of these, 93% were occupied between April 2009 and March 2010. During 2009, overall occupier satisfaction was 95%, compared to 92% in 2008 and 75% in 2007.

The survey results show that businesses are satisfied with various aspects of the Council’s services at the industrial and enterprise units including location, building quality, maintenance and rental agreements.

Between 2005 and 2008 a number of improvements were made to the industrial estates across Gwynedd as part of an Objective 1 funded programme worth £1.5 million, which included new signs, improvements to parking areas and landscaping work.

Councillor Dewi Lewis, Gwynedd Council’s Senior Economic Development Portfolio Leader said:

“Making sure that local businesses have the best platform to work, grow and thrive is very important to us. That is why it’s vital that we can provide industrial units and enterprise centres of the highest order.

“The last two years have been very challenging for the whole business sector so it is encouraging to hear that there is such a high intake of tenancies and that customer satisfaction is high.

“Local businesses are the backbone of our communities and I am confident that by working together we can see them develop.”

Three businesses have won £50 each in a prize draw for completing the survey. The winners are: Hafan Hire, Llanystumdwy; Dragon Signs, Llandygai; Gwynedd Rewinds, Hen Orsaf, Y Felinheli.
