Council campaign to cut energy costs

Council employees in Cwmbran’s County Hall are to be encouraged to take simple actions to reduce energy consumption, both at work and home.  The intention is to save the environment and save money so it can be used elsewhere.

Events will be run as part of the 10:10 Campaign – a drive to convince people to reduce their energy consumption by 10% throughout 2010 and beyond – and will be aimed at Monmouthshire and Torfaen employees.

As an incentive staff will take part in a competition to gauge which floor achieves the greatest reduction in emissions.  The winners will be able to display a certificate in the workplace.

In the pipeline are an energy surgery where experts will be available to hand out advice, a chance to use a car simulator to gauge how efficiently you drive and an exhibition to help you decide on your best choice for insulation and draught exclusion.

Monmouthshire’s 10:10 Coordinator, Alison Howard, said: “With just a few simple actions we can all contribute to saving energy and reducing bills.  Let’s see what difference it makes here in County Hall if we all take these small steps to change things.”
