Caerphilly County Borough Council is on course to make savings in the region of £420,000 if two staff restructures are agreed.
Two separate reports are set to be agreed by Cabinet on December 14th.
Cllr Allan Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Council and Cabinet Member responsible for Human Resources said, “The council is implementing a planned programme of efficiency measures to ensure the organisation is well placed to meet the financial challenges that lie ahead. These restructures are the first of many that will take place across the authority to ensure we are fit for purpose and in a strong position to tackle the uncertain financial times that lie ahead.”
The first report, relates to the re-shaping of the council’s communications and marketing team. Savings of £240,000 would be achieved by reducing the number of staff within the unit. This follows a significant cut made earlier this year by reducing the frequency of the council’s newspaper ‘Newsline’ to six editions per year and saving £50,000 p/a.
The second report, covers proposals to restructure the council’s Parks and Outdoor Facilities Service leading to savings of £180,000. The service is responsible for looking after the parks, outdoor sports facilities and open spaces across the county borough and also includes the authority’s bereavement service. The proposed management restructure will result in improved service delivery and accountability by creating a greater focus on the needs of individual communities.
“Caerphilly is better placed that many other local authority’s thanks to our careful strategic planning and we want to send out a clear message that we aim to cut costs, but protect services for our local communities,” Cllr Pritchard added.
