An innovative Gwynedd Council initiative is helping the county’s businesses to achieve higher standards so that they can compete and make the most of large local capital projects.
Working with the Welsh Government’s Supplier Development Service, Gwynedd Council is providing support to the county’s businesses – financial support is available for businesses to secure the ISO 9001 quality management system and ISO 14001 environmental management system accreditations.
A number of Gwynedd companies have now received support and have secured accreditations which ensure that they are in a strong position as they compete for commercial contracts. The businesses who have received support include Caulmert Ltd from Bangor, Penrhyndeudraeth-based Falconer Electricals Ltd; Nefyn Cleaning Services and Mulcair Ltd who are based in Caernarfon.
Gwynedd Council’s Economy and Community Portfolio Leader, Councillor John Wynn Jones said: “Ensuring that Gwynedd businesses can compete for large contracts has been identified as a priority by the Council through the ‘Keep the Benefit Local’ project as part of our three year plan. We are confident that supporting Gwynedd companies in this way is key to ensuring a strong and vibrant local economy.
“The Council’s Economy and Community officers work hard to provide the best possible support for local companies. It is pleasing to see that a number of Gwynedd businesses have already secured support so that they can make every attempt to benefit from significant expenditure on capital projects within the area.”
As part of this work, Mulcair Ltd from Caernarfon who are civil engineering contractors have received support to gain professional accreditations.
Alan Roberts, from the company, said: “The accreditation which we have successfully attained with assistance from Gwynedd Council will ensure that we meet our environmental management system commitments and corporate policy and will also increase our competitiveness in civil engineering contracts both within and outside the region.”
