Gwynedd councillor Gwilym Euros Roberts has been arrested for the attempted murder of his wife after allegedly finding her at a hotel with a rival.
His wife was taken to hospital but her injuries are not said to be life threatening.
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said:
“The charges against Councillor Gwilym Euros Roberts are extremely serious and a matter of concern for the Council.
“Councillor Roberts has represented Diffwys and Maenofferen in Blaenau Ffestiniog since 2008. He is one of two Llais Gwynedd representatives on the Council’s cross-party Executive Board and is responsible for Human Resources.
“We understand that the Llais Gwynedd Group will be meeting this evening to discuss Councillor Roberts’ future as their representative on the Board and as a Portfolio Leader.”
