Round Britain RNLI at 40 years and 40mph

Swansea biking enthusiast Kevin Hancock is dusting down his leathers for a 4,000 mile trip around the UK coast on board his beloved 90cc Honda Scooter.

The kind-hearted fundraiser will reach top speeds of just 40 mph as he visits all of the RNLI’s mainland lifeboat stations to raise funds for a new RNLI lifeboat for The Mumbles, and it’s all part of Kevin’s 40th Birthday celebrations.

Kevin will start his journey from The Mumbles RNLI Lifeboat Station on May 1 and hopes to raise £1,000 towards a modern Tamar class RNLI lifeboat for The Mumbles. He has a very personal reason for backing the RNLI’s Money for Mumbles appeal.

Kevin said: “I will be dedicating the trip to Lee Woods, who died in a boating accident on April 25, 2004 at the age of 17. Lee’s body was recovered by the RNLI 16 days after the accident on May 11 – my birthday. Lee’s father Steve and I have been friends since childhood and I wanted to show my support to my friend who has been fundraising tirelessly for the RNLI since the volunteer crews recovered his son’s body.

“I felt it was an appropriate way to mark my 40th Birthday, with my passion for bikes and help show Steve my support by helping to raise funds for the RNLI. I hope people will give generously by visiting my Just Giving page and making a donation.”

Steve Wood launched the ‘Money for Mumbles’ RNLI appeal in August 2009 and has since organised countless fundraisers to bring in the cash. The appeal aims to raise £150,000 toward the modern £2.7-million Tamar class lifeboat for the volunteer RNLI crew at The Mumbles.
